It’s been a while since I wrote a blog for an in home lifestyle newborn photo session. This time round my clients were some close friends who I’ve know since I met my husband back in 2010. Em and Shaun are such a lovely people and if you had a chance to meet them you for sure would think the same. Em works as a nurse in the renal unit at Great Ormond Street hospital and does an amazing job with helping young children to get better. I don’t know about you but whoever decides to help others and learn any medical skill for me are just heroes! Shaun used to work in his dream job in market research until a couple of years ago he decided to change his career and train as a paramedic. He is about to start his new job after the summer. It’s such a brave move to come out of your comfort zone doing something you love and start something totally new, however it’s an example to show that it’s never too late to make a change and to do something that you are really passionate about.
It wasn’t an easy road for Em and Shaun to become parents. Em has suffered with endometriosis which prevented her from getting pregnant naturally. Today’s medicine however gives people like Em a chance, a chance to become a parent and start family life. After first IVF attempt, they were successful and after 9 months Em and Shaun welcomed their first child, a lovely little girl called Maeve.
I was very excited to travel to Folkestone to finally meet Maeve and see how the new parents are doing. They are going through the same feelings as every new parents. Maeve loves to drink milk and Em is doing an amazing job breastfeeding even though it has been a tough first few weeks. She also loves to be close to mummy so at the moment they are co-sleeping. I used to do that with both of my girls and some people might say it will not help little ones with getting used to sleep on their own but I truly believe that if your baby needs you, you should just be close to them and cuddle them as much as you can. Both of my girls are now sleeping on their own and I’ve never had an issue with their sleeping (well apart of when they are ill or teething!!).
There is lots of information available for everyone and sometimes us as new parents you are overwhelmed with “do this and do that” and we automatically feel the need to fit in or do something like others do. We need to remember that just because we are doing something different is doesn’t mean it’s wrong. We should just follow our instincts and try our best at being happy and look after our family which we so dearly love.
I loved shooting Maeve in a home lifestyle session and she was a very good girl during the session. I’ve enjoyed taking photographs when Em was feeding Maeve and family photos with cuddles and kisses. Because my in home lifestyle newborn photo sessions are very relaxed I enjoy just capturing family moments as they are. I am trying to encourage families not to look straight into the camera and just focus on family members giving them affection and love. I also like to encourage conversation and asking questions about their life. Em and Shaun are keen travellers and they have seen lots of places! Starting from Europe, then traveling all way across to United States, Australia and many other wonderful places. Their best destination so far is Japan and they also love to ski! I cannot wait for a ski holiday with them and Maeve. I am sure she will be flying off the ski slopes in no time (after Shaun pushed her…!).
Thank you so much to Em and Shaun for our full of laughter and memories lifestyle newborn photo session. You are wonderful parents and Maeve is very lucky to have you.
If you would like a similar session get in touch and I would love to work with you. I am a family photographer in Basingstoke and also happily travel further to create wonderful memories for my clients.
