At the beginning of the year, I set myself a list of potential blogs I wanted to write. This one was not on the list, however, as we are all currently facing the same challenges due to COVID-19, where most of us are either working from home or just simply staying at home with kids, I thought I would share with you some activities for kids which I have been enjoying with my girls.
Whilst certainly stressful, the time now afforded to us allows us to get creative with them and have a lot of fun. I think the most thing to remember is to allow kids just to enjoy the activities. Crafts don’t have to be perfect and a little (or big) mess is not a big deal. If we all have to stay at home for some time I think creating a daily itinerary will help with your family routine and reduce potential boredom. Also, remember that kids don’t have to be stimulated all the time so give them some free play time after an activity 🙂
My aim is to do morning exercises. We so far tried Cosmic yoga and GoNoodle. Sophie enjoyed Frozen moves and we also join Joe Wicks exercise videos.
I am planning to have two crafty activities per day, play in the garden or go for a treasure hunt walks (whilst maintaining social distance!). My aim is also to start teaching Sophie on the piano but I am not sure how much patience she (or I!) will have.
My girls also enjoy helping with cooking and baking. It is another great family activity and can be so much fun, especially when they get so excited about licking the mixture bowl or learning all different types of vegetables and meats.
Why not use the current situation to try to learn a new skill such as taking better photographs of your little ones. A couple of months back I wrote a blog on “How to make them smile”. Make sure you give it a read and pick up that camera of yours and capture your family moments.
Below are a few of our recent activities to give you some inspirations. They are all very simple and encouraging many of the skills, such as motor or listening skills. Most of my activities for kids come from Pinterest and I have created a board with the activities we are planning on doing. If you have Pinterest ask your kids to choose activities they like too and enjoy that family time.
Till next time
