When I was younger time didn’t matter. Days, months, years were going by, but I didn’t feel it. For the last few years, I have been noticing a change in me. I started to appreciate the time. I genuinely don’t know where 2021 has gone. Last year was important to me and there have been lots of changes in my personal and professional life. Let me share with you a few things that happened over the last year. They are super important to me. Because of these events, I have grown as an individual. I have learned about myself and started to notice when to push for something and when to let go.
Family photo sessions during the pandemic
We all know 2020 was a difficult time for businesses. The photography business was hit hard and photographers couldn’t meet with people for most of the year. Stepping into 2021 felt unsure but at the same time hopeful. Hopeful that people would come back for family sessions and to capture their memories. I was excited when bookings started coming in and I was excited to meet new people. In between standard family sessions I had a few extended family sessions which felt amazing. I think after the pandemic people wanted to celebrate the time they spend with family and capture the precious moments of a few generations. I hope I will capture many more extended families in 2022.
Couples photography
In 2021 I decided to practice some new sessions and one of the sessions I wanted to try was couples photography. I thoroughly enjoyed the sessions where we focused on so much love, cuddles and appreciation for each other. My plan for 2022 is to continue with couples photography and I can’t wait to share a link to a page just for couples. Watch this space!
Female photography
I could probably talk for hours about female photography and why it is so important for me. In my opinion, every woman deserves and should have a female photo session. The women I met in 2021 were beautiful and it was great working with such amazing personalities. I have recently created a page for female photo sessions and looking forward to more sessions in 2022. In January I have 3 female photo sessions and I cannot wait to see what we create together.
Becoming full-time photographer
This achievement was big(!) and although I wanted to do it for so many years it was still scary! Everything feels so new still and although it’s now coming up to 5 months I am still finding my feet. This month for example is the first time when I created a monthly calendar and I definitely needed it(!). It’s helped me structure my days I am learning every day and trying my hardest. Becoming a full-time photographer is still the best but hardest thing, but I’ll be doing my best to keep doing what I love.
My photography plans for 2022
I am not great with New Years Resolutions and haven’t done any for many years now. With photography, I also decided not to have any set plans but there are a few things that I definitely need to improve on and practice. These are:
- create more family films which I loved doing back in 2020. 2021 was so much busier and family films were pushed down the line. I will change this in 2022.
- Learn how to use gimble (image stablisation for filmography)
- Become a friend with flash photography (I’ve always used natural light!) 🙂
- continue with couples and female photography
This year is going to be exciting and I am looking forward to new challenges and to being much more organised too! I am saying goodbye to 2021 and hello to 2022! You are going to be great!
Till next time
